Location: Des Plaines
Under the direction of the Superintendent of Maintenance, or designate, is responsible for supervising the vehicle repairs of fixed route buses, equipment, and the facility and performing the repairs, as needed; overseeing maintenance activities of employees on their shift; assigning work by generating work orders or assignments using the Oracle Maintenance System and ensuring all work is done within Pace policies, procedures and standards; reviewing work orders and assignments for time and material used; monitoring attendance; handling road calls; giving instruction and on-the-job training to maintenance employees; providing technical and mechanical expertise to assist and support the maintenance staff; handling all necessary reports and troubleshooting bus problems and defect cards; inspecting the facility to ensure it is safe and secure; and performing other duties as assigned or required. Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather, fumes, and noise. The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day and night, any day and night of the week. Will also perform duties at Des Plaines on any shift and any day of the week as needed. This is a safety sensitive position.
Qualified candidate must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and possess or be able to obtain a valid Class "A" commercial driver's license with air brake and passenger endorsements; must have A/C certifications and DOT certification; must have at least five years prior experience with diesel, gas and/or NGV/CNG maintenance and repair and/or technical training to include diesel engines, electrical, suspension and hydraulic systems, DOT regulations, and preventive maintenance, shift responsible and or supervisor experience is preferred; must pass the Foreman exam, possess excellent technical, mechanical, and verbal and written communication skills, and be able to read blueprints, schematics and maintenance manuals; must be proficient with Microsoft Office suites applications and the Oracle Maintenance System; and must have a good work record with an excellent attendance history. This position entails walking, climbing of ladders, and lifting and/or moving heavy equipment (approx. 75 pounds).
