Superintendent of Transportation

Job Description:
Under the direction of the Division Manager or designate, is responsible for the direct supervision and oversight of all Transportation Section employees; providing safe, reliable, courteous, and efficient service to the public in our service area; overseeing all transportation operations and functions; labor relations matters, including ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreement; implementing, monitoring and enforcing Pace rules, policies, procedures and programs; overseeing Transportation Section employees attendance and updating and issuing miss-out and absenteeism watch lists; supervising and assigning work to Dispatcher/Supervisors; reviewing and approving daily overtime, extra board, and exception; completing and running necessary reports; minimizing overtime and analyzing unscheduled overtime; maintaining Bus Operator staffing levels to remain within budget; interviewing, hiring, disciplining, terminating, and reviewing Bus Operators and Dispatchers/Supervisors; assisting with payroll including reviewing, approving, completing and submitting payroll; auditing petty cash and non-revenue fuel use; AM/PM pullouts; coordinates Run Pick changes and information with Planning; assembles and conducts timely run picks and vacation picks and analyzing run pick hours; handles complaints and closes them out in the system; conducts investigations with the assistance of the Division Manager; working through all transportation-related grievances; overseeing implementation and shutdown of the out-stationing operation; coordinating and overseeing Wilmette fireworks; utilizing video, including Drive Cam systems as needed; working with Maintenance Superintendent to coordinate maintenance needs related to transportation; and performing other duties as assigned or required. This is a safety sensitive position.

Qualified candidate must have a valid Class B Commercial Driver's license with passenger and air brake endorsements; DOT certification; a high school diploma or equivalent, bachelor's degree in public administration, business, or equivalent experience is preferred; and a minimum of 5 years' experience in transit operation management involving labor relations, discipline of employees, complaints, and incident investigation and have a good work history; must be familiar with Pace safety/training and maintenance procedures; must be adept at using Microsoft Windows applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel, knowledge of IBS preferred; must possess strong transportation, planning, math, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and strong organizational and interpersonal skill; and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality; must be able to work in an office and garage environment and lift up to 25 pounds frequently; and must be available to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
