Staff Accountant

Job Description:
Under the direction of the Department Manager, Accounting is responsible for reviewing payments requests for contractors; entering revenues and expenses from monthly reports for municipalities and townships to calculate payments owed; entering invoices in the Accounts Payable module in Oracle; reviewing billing requests, entering invoices in Oracle Receivables and sending the invoices to the customers; following up with Revenue Services on status of payment requests and billing requests; addressing issues in payment and billing requests; tracking payments made to contractors to determine if accruals are necessary; preparing and entering journal entries; performing monthly analysis of revenue and expense accounts; reviewing annual municipal contracts and preparing spreadsheets for payment calculations; preparing estimates for accruals; performing year end analysis of fuel for public funded fixed route carriers; performing year end analysis of all fixed route, municipal, ADA and Non-ADA revenue and expense and processing reversals for all accruals; reviewing new service contracts to determine payment requirements, setting up new vendors; reviewing letters of credit for grant expenditures and project administration charges; participating in check run audits; reviewing invoices for compliance with procedures and ensuring proper approvals; responding to audit confirmations, audit requests and FOIA requests; and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Qualified candidate must have a bachelor's degree in business or accounting; 3 to 5 years of general accounting and accounts payable/receivables experience including experience working with trend analysis and preparation of accruals and working in an automated accounting system; strong knowledge of journal entry preparation and account reconciliation; strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word; good verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills; and a good work history. Must be able to work in a professional office environment with the majority of working hours consisting of computer work and must be able to lift 10 pounds.
