Taxi Access Program (TAP)

Pace's Taxi Access Program (TAP) allows ADA Paratransit eligible riders immediate access to a Chicago taxi to meet their transportation needs, as an alternative to riding ADA Paratransit. To use TAP, you must be certified for ADA Paratransit by the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and you must have an active TAP card to purchase TAP rides.

TAP can be a great way to travel for last-minute plans. Unlike ADA Paratransit, there's no need to reserve a trip a day in advance. You can call or hail a taxi at your convenience. For a list of taxi providers, please call 311. Taxicab drivers are independent contractors and do not work for Pace nor the City of Chicago.

Riders are required to swipe their TAP card at the end of their trip and are limited to 8 one way trips a day.  Riders are responsible for any taxi fare amount over $30 and additional taxi surcharges.

Fare

TAP rides cost $2.00, less expensive than the $3.25 ADA Paratransit rides.

Loading rides to your TAP card

Click the TAP LOG-IN PAGE to visit the TAP account management site (operated by CabConnect). There, you can view your TAP card balance, purchase TAP rides, and view your purchase history. Log-in instructions are found on that page for first-time users.

PURCHASE RIDES IN PERSON: At Kedzie & Irving Park Currency Exchange, located at 3158 W. Irving Park Rd. in Chicago or the 79th & Vincennes Currency Exchange, located at 353 W. 79th Street in Chicago. Please note: you must present your own TAP card to purchase rides. Payments may be made by cash or a credit/debit card. No personal checks accepted.

PURCHASE RIDES BY MAIL: Use the TAP RIDE MAIL ORDER FORM found here. Please complete and sign both pages of the form and send with your payment to the address listed on the form or it will delay processing. This mail-in process will take longer to process than the other options above.

Wheelchair-accessible taxis

Passengers can request a wheelchair-accessible (WAV) taxicab ride in Chicago by calling the City of Chicago's centralized WAV taxi dispatch service at 888-WAV-CABS (1-888-928-2227). Note: TAP card cannot be used when booking trips through any mobile taxi app.
