Vanpool Programs

Traditional Vanpool

The Traditional Vanpool is designed to transport a group of 5-13 people to work in a Pace Van.

Employees that live and work near one another and share similar schedules can form a group that conveniently gets them between home and work. Each rider pays a low monthly fare based on distance and number of participants. This covers all costs of the vanpool including fuel, maintenance, insurance, tolls, roadside assistance, and van washes.

One of the participants volunteers to be the primary driver. He or she does not pay a fare and also receives 300 personal miles a month!

Backup drivers receive a $10 per month discount.

Mini-van fare amount. Maxi or Conversion van in this range requires a monthly surcharge per passenger of $15.00.
Fares are based on 21 work/commute days per month (approximately 5 work/commute days per week). Fares will be adjusted to accommodate van operation which is consistently greater or fewer than 21 work days per month. * The van driver is excluded from this rider count. *Fares effective 09/01/2007*

For an additional savings, fares can be paid with pre-tax dollars through the Commuter Choice Benefits Program.

Guaranteed Ride Home – Participants are eligible for reimbursement of up to $125/ year for alternative transportation taken due to a personal emergency. This does not apply for overtime.
Added Value – Participants who use a Pace fixed route bus to get to or from a vanpool pick-up location can be issued a 30-day Pace Commuter Club Card, valid for unlimited rides on Pace fixed routes. Participants may also opt to purchase a CTA/Pace 30-Day Pass, valid on all CTA and Pace fixed routes, at a discounted rate.

The primary driver is required to pay a $250 security deposit or submit a credit card account number in lieu of a deposit. Each passenger is required to pay a $75 deposit. Deposits are refundable, based on the condition of the van and account status.

The primary driver and back-up drivers must sign a Driver/ Back-up Driver Agreement and passengers must sign a Rider agreement, prior to participation. An initial three-month commitment to the program is required.
