As the Democratic National Convention (DNC) approaches, Pace is working closely with the DNC committee and Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) to ensure mobility and access for all. From August 19-22, 2024, Pace service will be impacted by increased traffic, road closures, and security measures near the United Center and McCormick Place. If your trip isn’t essential, we kindly ask you to consider postponing it.
Security perimeters around United Center and McCormick Place will cause street closures beginning Friday, August 16 at 10:00 p.m. until Friday, August 23. Pace will have limited access in some areas, and closures are subject to change. Some roads will be closed to both cars and pedestrians, while other roads will be closed only to cars. Pace vehicles will not be able to access closed roads. Pace will continue to work with the OEMC during the event to communicate any changes.
Designated pick-up/drop-off locations for ADA Paratransit Service passengers are:
- United Center: Paulina Street and Madison Street (marked “Rideshare”)
- McCormick Place: On Wabash Avenue between 23rd Street and 24th Place
Please note that I-55 will be closed between State Street and Lake Shore Drive during the convention. Starting Monday, August 19, routes 850, 851, and 855 will take alternate routes to access I-55 on outbound trips. Don’t worry—our buses will still stop at all the usual locations, though you might experience some delays on your way home. Any other temporary changes will be communicated as soon as possible, so you’re always in the know.
