Transfers

A rider who boards a bus or train and then boards a second bus or train within two hours pays a discounted “transfer” fare on the second boarding. The transfer is only available when paying by transit value with your Ventra Card. The correct amount will automatically be deducted from your Ventra account when tapping on the second bus or train; there is nothing to show the bus operator. Transfers are not available to riders paying a cash fare.

The information below applies to the first transfer made by a rider. The rider's second transfer is always free. There is no “third transfer”; in that case, the rider pays full fare.

From Regular Fixed Route

The following passengers ride free on Pace fixed-route buses: riders with RTA free ride Ventra cards, ADA-certified paratransit riders, children under the age of 7 (up to two children per fare-paying adult), active-duty military personnel in uniform and police officers and firefighters in uniform or with badge and ID.

When riding Pace Premium service, passholders receive a discount on the Premium fare. Instead of paying $4.50 per trip, the surcharge is $2.25 for full fare passholders and $1.10 for reduced fare passholders.

With Regional Day Pass

The Regional Day Pass allows for unlimited travel on Pace, Metra, and CTA. Every ride, all day*!

This discounted 24-hour pass includes a Metra Day Pass plus unlimited rides on Pace and CTA*.

Everything you need to know about the Regional Day Pass:

The Regional Day Pass is only available in the Ventra app
Riders must first purchase a Metra Day Pass with the zones of their choice. Upon purchase, they will then be offered the option to add on the Regional Day Pass
The Regional Day Pass is valid for one day from activation*
All unused Regional Day Passes expire within 14 days

* The Regional Day Pass is valid on Pace and CTA for 24 hours after first tap and on Metra until 3:00 a.m. after ticket launch and can be used on Pace Premium Routes for a $2.50 surcharge ($1.10 for reduced fare card holders).

Weekday Regional Day Passes cost:

$10 in Metra's single zone travel area ($6 for reduced fare card holders)
$13.50 in Metra's two-zone travel area ($8 for reduced fare card holders)
$16 in Metra's three-zone travel area ($9 for reduced fare card holders)

All weekend Regional Day Passes cost $9.50.

How to buy the Regional Day Pass on the Ventra app

Upon purchase of a Metra Day Pass through the Ventra app riders will be offered the option to add a "Regional Day Pass" for unlimited rides on Pace and CTA.

PLEASE NOTE: Riders MUST have a registered Ventra Card in their Ventra account to buy a Regional Day Pass.

Also, riders must have Ventra app version 2.2.11 to access the pass. If your app hasn’t updated yet, you can update it manually in the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Unlimited rides for 30 consecutive days on all premium, regular, and local Pace routes. Not valid on CTA. When using Ventra, Pace offers 2 free transfer rides within a 2-hour timeframe of the initial Premium ride. So, at no cost, you can transfer two times from one Premium route to another Premium route, or fixed route or On Demand ride if it happens within 2 hours of the first Premium ride.

With Metra/Pace/CTA - Regional Connect Pass

The Regional Connect Pass is available to holders of Metra’s unlimited ride monthly pass and it provides month long unlimited rides on all CTA and Pace routes (except premium routes) with no day or time restrictions. Transfers to Pace premium routes require a $2.25 surcharge ($1.10 with an RTA Reduced Fare card).

With Campus Connection

Affordable transportation is a must for college students.

Pace's comprehensive system of bus routes, combined with unlimited rides using the Campus Connection Pass, make travel to and from class, simple and affordable. With no day or time restrictions, the Campus Connection Pass takes you where you need to go after class too!

The Campus Connection Pass offers college students unlimited rides on Pace regular fixed route and On Demand buses every day of the week at any time of day. The pass is valid for an entire semester (5 months) or it can be purchased during the semester at a pro-rated price. When riding Pace Premium routes, Campus Connection passholders pay only a $2.25 surcharge.

The Summer Campus Connection pass is available during the summer. The Pace Summer Campus Connection costs $140, regardless of when it is purchased. The Summer Campus Connection is valid June 1 - August 31.
