ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – Pace Bus is thrilled to join DuSable Black History Museum’s Juneteenth Celebrating Freedom event. To honor the 159th anniversary of this historic day, Pace will display its 1949 GMC bus at the June 19 event. It’s the same model bus that Rosa Parks rode during her courageous act of civil disobedience in 1955 that sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
This bus was used by the West Towns Bus Company, providing public transit service in the near west Chicago suburbs. Pace now operates bus service in that area after acquiring West Towns and other local bus companies in 1984. A Rosa Parks storyteller will be stationed in front of the bus during the event to share Rosa Parks’ story and the history of the Civil Rights Movement.
Pace staff will also be on hand to share more about career opportunities at Pace. Job seekers looking for a meaningful career should stop by the Pace table to talk to Human Resource representatives.
“Juneteenth is a significant day, and we are thrilled to be a part of DuSable’s celebration and share a piece of history,” said Melinda Metzger, Executive Director of Pace. “Pace service offers access to opportunity for all, and we proudly provide safe, innovative, and equitable service across the region.”
DuSable's celebration, which begins at 10am, is free and open to the public and includes activities, performances, and discussions suitable for the entire family. Attendees will enjoy a family-friendly games station, children's story time, African marketplace, and musical performances by Joe Pratt and the Source One Band, country music performer, Immanuel, and the R&B hits band the Javon Watson Experience.
