New partnership offers "Royale" upgrade for free; additional functionality coming in 2023

As of November 1, 2022, Pace's partnership with the Transit app, which has for years offered trip planning and bus tracking, now offers Pace riders a free Royale subscription in the app. For smartphone users who want to plan trips and track buses in real time via an app, Pace recommends downloading and using the Transit app.

This launch represents Pace's first step towards creating a Mobility as a Service platform that will eventually allow users to see information about all members of Pace's family of service in one easy-to-use place, improving the customer experience.

As soon as you open the Transit app, you’ll see nearby bus routes and arrival times. Transit has real-time information for our transit services to help you get around the region. You can also combine bus service with other transportation options in Transit’s trip planner.

What does the free Royale upgrade of the app offer me?

Royale is the upgraded version of the Transit app. Pace's partnership with Transit means that Pace riders get it for free. Royale offers you:

  • All bus routes: Look up future departure times, track vehicles, and more, for any transit line--not just Pace routes.
  • You can also get user-friendly step-by-step guidance with GO. Tap GO to be reminded when to leave, when to transfer, and when to get off the bus. Subscribe to push notifications so you know when you’re almost there and when you’ve arrived. Additionally, with GO crowdsourcing, you can share real-time reports on crowding and accessibility and boost the accuracy of real-time info for fellow riders.
  • GO celebrity status: Create the perfect alter ego when you ride — you can choose your own emoji and a nickname to climb up the leaderboards when you use GO.
  • Custom themes: Make Transit feel more like, well, YOU! Customize your app icon, and the app color scheme when you use Transit.
  • More iconic icons: Unlock 20+ new icons to mark your favorite places, so they feel more personal and quirky — not just like pins on a map.

How can I upgrade to Royale?

If you don't have the app, you first need to download it to your Apple or Android phone. Returning users can open Transit and use it as normal. The app will detect that you're a Pace rider and give you the free Royale upgrade automatically.

Do I need to create an account to use Royale?

All of the features of Royale (as well as all of Transit’s core features) do not require an account. We suggest creating a Transit account to save all of your favorite routes and locations in case you switch devices in the future. Having a Transit account is the easiest way to pick up where you left off on your previous device. Additionally, if Pace implements any features in the future that involve making payments, you will need an account to make those payments. You can read more about Transit accounts here.

Will Royale feel different from how the Transit app has been working for me?

No! For functions like trip planning and checking departures, Royale looks and feels almost exactly the same as before. Royale also introduces new, optional features like GO leaderboards and in-app theme options to customize Transit on your device.

What features is Pace rolling out in 2023?

Even more exciting developments in the Pace/Transit partnership are coming in 2023, including the ability to show Pace On Demand service options in trip planning results.
