Christopher S. Canning
Director Canning is the former President of the Village of Wilmette. His village service included serving as Liquor Control Commissioner, Chairman of the Business Development Advisory Board, Chairman of the Fire Pension Board, Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, and Co-Chair of the Sesquicentennial Planning Committee.
Canning served as President of the Northwest Municipal Conference, chair of their Legislative Committee and member of the Executive Committee. Canning also served on the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus’ Executive Board and Legislative Committee. Prior to being appointed to the Pace Board of Directors, Canning served as Chair of the RTA’s Citizen Advisory Board.
Canning has a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University’s School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College. Canning met his wife Barbara at Loyola Law, and they have been married for 35 years with two adult children. They have practiced law together at Canning & Canning LLC in Wilmette since 2009. Prior to practicing in Wilmette, Canning worked as President and General Counsel of Vulcan Sports Media in Northbrook, as Vice President and General Counsel of The Sporting News, as Vice President and General Counsel, of One-on-One Sports in Northbrook, and as a partner at Winston & Strawn in Chicago. He is also a Certified Spin Instructor working for the Wilmette Park District.
On Pace's Board of Directors, Canning represents the North Shore Suburban Cook County region and is Chairman of the Planning & Infrastructure Committee. He has served on the Pace Board since 2013. Canning rode the Wilbus, the predecessor to Pace, as a student at Loyola Academy in Wilmette and continues to ride the bus today.
