Job description:
Pace’s Pulse is arterial bus rapid transit that provides premium limited-stop service featuring enhanced amenities in heavily traveled corridors of Chicagoland. The Rapid Transit Intern will support progress on rapid transit lines in development as well as study bus priority for existing lines. The intern’s essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Observe and document field conditions, including parking utilization and bus performance.
- Research and compile relevant plans and data to support the development of scopes of work for future Pulse Lines.
- Assist Pace with preparing for and staffing stakeholder events.
The intern will learn analytical skills, stakeholder engagement methods and formats, and the Pulse project development process. Their achievements will include providing data for the Rapid Transit team to make persuasive arguments to partners (municipalities and roadway jurisdictions) for proposed on-street bus priority features and parking removals. Using data collection materials created and tested by full-time staff, they will conduct bus performance timing and parking counts. Further, they will support Pace’s public and key stakeholder presence during the Environmental Review phase of the Pulse Cermak Line and the AE Design Phases of the Pulse 95th Street and Halsted Lines through preparing basic meeting materials and assisting with in-meeting logistics. Finally, they will conduct in-house research to inform scope development for the Project Definition of future Pulse Lines.

Qualifications:
Age:
18+.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalency and be enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year college.
Experience:
Must be enrolled in accredited 2 year or 4-year college and enrolled in urban planning or related field.
Certifications:
Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Proficiencies:
An individual hired for this position must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite products. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, drive within Pace’s service area, type, file documents, and carry objects up to 20 pounds.
Work Location:
The primary work location is Pace Headquarters 550 W. Algonquin Road Arlington Heights, IL 60005.
Hours:
Approximately 20 hours per week.
Working Conditions:
The position is based in an office setting with standard office equipment. The typical workday is conducted over an 8-hour period and can begin as early as 7:00 am and end no later than 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This position is not eligible for hybrid or remote telecommuting.
Salary:
$21/hr.
