Matthew Hickey
Matthew Hickey is a public finance, community development, and civic engagement professional from Libertyville, Illinois. His work has centered on the belief that government and public agencies are positive forces in people’s lives when they listen well, communicate clearly, and work in partnership with the communities they serve.
Matt served as a Village of Libertyville Trustee and Chair of the Finance Committee from 2021 to 2025, where he worked with elected officials and professional staff on municipal budgeting, infrastructure investment, capital planning, enterprise funds, public safety facility financing, and long-term financial stewardship. Earlier in his career, he worked in community development banking and investment, supporting affordable housing, redevelopment, community facilities, nonprofit capacity building, and public-private partnerships across the Midwest and beyond.
Across these roles, Matt has focused on connecting finance, planning, policy, and community needs in ways that are understandable and useful to the public. He believes strong public agencies are built through trust: by listening carefully, explaining decisions plainly, respecting local experience, and working collaboratively across municipalities, counties, institutions, riders, taxpayers, businesses, and community partners.
On the Pace Board, Director Hickey represents Lake County.
